Authenticity Guidelines

In order to better facilitate the 151e in its journey toward historical accuracy, an official set of authenticity guidelines has been created. It is hoped that these guidelines will provide unit members with a greater degree of clarity and understanding in their approach to Great War reenacting. The guidelines are subject to both revision and amendments.

Name of Organization
Our primary impression is specifically that of the 151ème Régiment d'Infanterie de Ligne (151e R.I.L.). Furthermore, while the 151e is a chartered unit within the Great War Association (G.W.A.), it also operates autonomously by attending and sponsoring events separate from those of the GWA.
Objective
The 151e R.I.L. is dedicated to the remembrance of the Great War (1914-1918) through recreating the life of the individual soldiers of the French Army.
Purpose
The unit's primary purpose is to honor the memories and sacrifice of the men who served in the Great War. Second, is to educate unit members about the French Army and the Great War, so that they may gain at least some small part of the individual soldier's experience.
Membership
Membership in the unit is open to males age 18 or over who consent to portray a documented impression of the 151e R.I.L.. There are three distinct types of membership: provisory member; full member; and honorary member. A provisory member is a new recruit who does not have to pay the full unit dues (see "Unit Dues" section below), has no say in unit matters and cannot hold rank. A person only remains a provisory member for their first G.W.A. event, after which they must become a full member. A full member must meet at least the following requirements: 1) They have their own basic uniform which meets the unit's authenticity standards--see the Gear page; 2) They have adopted an appropriate French first and last name (a confirmation name is optional); 3) They have attended at least two G.W.A. events at Newville, P.A.; 4) They consent to the unit's authenticity guidelines. An honorary member is someone who has been nominated by a full member and elected by popular vote to participate in events with the unit. They are not responsible for paying unit dues and do not have a say in unit matters.
Unit Dues
Unit dues are paid on an as-need and per-event basis. There are no annual dues. The average amount for unit dues at events is around $10, which covers the costs of rations and basic supplies. Occasionally, however, these dues must be supplemented because of site construction/maintenance costs at Newville, or some other ongoing project that benefits the unit either an individual or group level.
